Makerere University Lecturer

Home » Makerere University Lecturer

I am a Makerere University Lecturer in Networks and Software Engineering with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, an M.Sc. in Computer Science, a B.Sc. (Mathematics), and a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer.  I’ve instructed students in math, computer science, statistics, software engineering, and data communications. Some of the activities in which I have engaged during my time at the institution include conducting research projects, supervising graduate students, and collaborating with colleagues on academic publications.   I have also supervised graduate students in their research on topics such as machine learning, cloud computing, networks, IoT and software development. In terms of academic publications, Additionally, I have organized workshops and seminars on topics such as cybersecurity, building campus networks, data visualization techniques, and software development methodologies. In addition to my academic pursuits, I have also collaborated with industry and government organizations to develop digital technologies for teaching, learning, and research. I have worked closely with companies in the telecommunications sector to design and implement network infrastructure solutions, as well as with government agencies to develop ICT policies. These collaborations have allowed me to bridge the gap between academia and industry, and to contribute to real-world solutions for the challenges faced in the field.

Some of the Activities I participated in during my employment with Makerere University:

  • I developed curriculum for several courses in software engineering, networks, and data communications. As a result, I have acquired extensive experience designing and implementing effective computer science curricula that cover a broad range of topics.
  • In addition, I have participated in a number of thesis defenses as a committee member, evaluating and debating the students’ work. I supervise and examine graduate and undergraduate students, including assessing their research methodologies, analyzing their findings, and making recommendations for improvement.

The Projects Worked on

Principal Investigator

I was the principal investigator for the project Towards Promoting Innovative Local ICT Solutions. The initiative created and developed the first African university e-infrastructure as a key instrument for enhancing regional and global real-time scientific collaboration and research for development in Africa. The initiative also supported other e-infrastructure innovations aimed at enhancing research collaboration between participating African nations. These innovations included the development of data centers and the implementation of cloud computing technologies. Additionally, the initiative facilitated capacity-building programs to train researchers and students on how to effectively utilize these e-infrastructure resources for their research projects.

Curriculum Development Project

I was in charge of the curriculum development project. The initiative began as a proof-of-concept experiment centered on the concept of a meta-course that linked several campus-based courses in the United States, Uganda, and Tanzania through the use of elearning technologies. The success of the Co-Curriculum Development Project led to its expansion in the participating universities. It gained recognition as a model for e-learning and for cross-border collaboration in education and received funding for further development and implementation of e-learning at Makerere University.

NetTel@Africa project

As the NetTel@Africa project coordinator, my role was to oversee the implementation of the program in Uganda and Tanzania. Through this initiative, we aimed to improve the policy and regulatory frameworks surrounding the ICT and telecom industries in these countries. The project successfully increased the university’s capacity for elearning, which led to the adoption of these technologies by the university.

Pan African E-Network Project

I served as the project manager for the Pan African E-Network Project.  The project aimed to bridge the digital divide and enhance socio-economic development in Africa by providing affordable and accessible ICT services. Through this initiative, African countries were able to leverage India’s technological expertise and resources to improve education, healthcare, communication, and overall connectivity across the continent. This collaboration not only strengthened bilateral relations between India and African nations but also fostered knowledge exchange and capacity building in the ICT sector.

About Me

I hold a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. I was awarded an MSc in Computer Science from the Makerere University 2003, and BSc in Mathematics from Makerere University in 1997.
